- About GroupCalendar
About Group Calendar
Group Calendar allows guilds or groups of friends to share an in-game event calendar. The guild can post raid events and members can post events for dungeons they need to do quests for. Additionally, players can provide feedback to the event's sponsor saying that they will or won't be attending an event. Once installed Group Calendar replaces the minimap current time tooltip and sun & moon icon. This can be used to open the UI or it can be opened using the /calendar command. For instructions on how to set up Group Calendar for your guild or for your personal use, see the online user's manual
Troubleshooting Disappearing Events
The most common problem people experience with Group Calendar is having events and signups disappear. There are several possible causes of this and here are a few things to check to try to clear up the problem:
- Have the creator of the missing events and members who can't see the events try running the most current version (even if it's beta) of Group Calendar available. I'm always finding and fixing various bugs which can interfere with event processing and propagation so there's a chance the problem has been addressed.
- Have the event creator choose "Rebuild Database" in the Group Calendar About tab. This will push a fresh and repaired copy of his events onto the network, overwriting any damaged copy that may be out there.
- If the event creator uses more than one computer or has a friend/spouse/roommate who logs into his account from their own computers, try disabling GC for the creator's characters on those other computers. Group Calendar is designed to allow roaming between computers, but it is difficult for it to handle and it may not work reliably, especially if there aren't enough other users in the guild or if there are other Group Calendar bugs interfering with the propagation of events.
- If using more than one computer, it's best to always choose the "Accept" option when told there are newer versions of your event data on the network. If that turns out to be the wrong choice and causes events to disappear, there will be an automatic backup in the GC Backup tab which can be used to restore those events. If friends or family log into your account from their computers let them know to always choose "Accept" as well if that dialog comes up.
- If you've ever copied the WTF folder from your account to another account folder (to replicate your UI layout on the other account) then this will mess up Group Calendar because it will think your characters are owned by both accounts. Go into the WTF/Accounts/<login id>/SavedVariables folder for the account you copied to and delete the GroupCalendar.lua file. When copying your settings folder to another account like that, always omit the GroupCalendar.lua settings file or delete it after the copy.

msfroggie101 saidok..having huge issue with GC....everyone that signs up, seems to be put directly on the standby list...any1 explain to me why this is happening?

Mundocani saidMost likely you've got it set to be a "Closed Event" or the maximums for the classes or roles that are trying to sign up are set to zero. It's also possible that you have an old version, but it'd have to be several months old to still have the bug that used to cause that. You of course updated to a recent version though after experiencing trouble though, so I'm sure that's not it ;)

orcdork saidI love GroupCalendar! It's an amazing tool for keeping our guild organized while in-game. I was curious, however, if it's possible to somehow export/import or synchronize data from GroupCalendar to a generic format such as iCal. This way I could easily import events into a Google Calendar so we can keep tabs on our schedules even when we're not in-game.

Mundocani saidI'm playing around with ical export, but I'm having a hard time getting Google Calendar to show the attendance. I should probably try another application instead of Google, but for now that's all I've been trying it against.
Even if/when I add it, it will probably be view-only. In other words, you could display it on a Google or other calendar, but you couldn't make changes in Google or other apps and import them back into Group Calendar.

nalentha saidI need a little help. I've followed the online manual for setting up my GC as admin (I'm also the GM of my group). I've set a shared channel, password and everyone in my guild can see events, create them, sign up for them..the works.. except mine. I can create events on my admin toon and all of my alts but no one else in the guild can see them. No one is having a problem seeing any of the events created by any of the other guild members.
Granted I'm not the most tech-savvy person in the world but I've looked over the manual, my husband has looked over the manual and the settings and neither of us can figure out what's gone wrong. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions and ideas are most welcome.

Mundocani saidThat's a strange one, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that GC has somehow messed up creating your databases. Try going to the GC About tab and click the Rebuild Database button and see if that clears it up.

slickwalker saidSorry if this is obvious, but under the configuration screen, what does the minimum rank to show effect? Does this mean only people above this level will be able to add events, or only people above this level will be able to participate in events?

Mundocani saidAnybody can always create events, but your calendar will only show and share events created by people at or above the minimum rank.
The minimum rank setting has no effect on who can sign up for events.

Dridzt saidWe've had a few occurrences of disappearing events in my guild with the 4.1 version recently.
Was quite a surprise as we've been using it for a long time without such issues.
I'm not filing a bug report as there were no lua errors involved.
In case it helps find the root of the issue, the problems appear to be related to the handling of Alts for the event planners.
One of our officers (computer literate person that you can trust to have configured the addon properly),
had events disappearing shortly after he posted them when he did it from one of his Alts (guilded alt and in same guild).
I have a Debug tab created and it was getting spammed by many messages starting with RAT and ending with DEL,
whenever he tried to repost the events on that character.
When he logged to the main (officer rank) later on to try, the events "sticked" normally.
Another observation related to my personal experience:
I have an unguilded Alt (my time away from GL alt :)).
I have GroupCalendar enabled on it, but haven't touched configuration (I can check the settings next time I log my alt if it's relevant).
Like I said it's unguilded Alt with GC enabled and 'default' config.
My guild uses the guild channel and automatic configuration.
Everytime I log on my unguilded alt and exit the game, next time I log my main I'm greeted by
the dialog informing me that changes have happened to my GC from another computer or my pc crashed
and do I want to update or delete the DB.
Since I don't use more than one computers and I know I didn't crash I usually just delete and haven't lost any events or signups that way.
It seems though that GC somehow gets confused in that situation as I shouldn't be getting the prompt at all.
Sorry for wall-o-text, just seems there's a problem with the handling of main/alt relations in GC.

Mundocani saidCool, thanks for the info -- I'll have to review the code and see if I can find anything. As you're already aware there are several people who have posted here with a very similar problem. Sounds like it must be a bug and not just user error, now to figure out where the bug is lurking...

Xong saidI would like sya that i love this add and it works smoothly for me, However I notice one the pic of it that is shos the day (number) instead of the clock. Is that the old feature? if so I suggest putting it back, because of Blizz posting the time under the minimap. I would liek to se the day ratehr then another clock.

Mundocani saidYou can use
/cal clock off
to turn off the clock. The day thing was only an icon and didn't show the actual date so even if you could switch back to that it wouldn't do what you're hoping.

Kseftw saidI also have problems with getting started with this addon.. i cant see the normal clock in the top right corner over the map..
i've used it several times before, and this is the 1st time its not going as intended. i've even reset all my addons, my UI, used WoW repair and redo, repaired again to see with only GC and no other addon, still the same thing. i just cannot see what the problem is, hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance

Mundocani saidTry doing
/cal help
and see if anything happens. That'll indicate whether it at least loaded. If that doesn't work, make sure it's enabled (I'm sure you already have, but I have to mention it :)
Finally, look in World of Warcraft/Logs/FrameXML.log (open that file in any text editor) and see if there are errors in there regarding Group Calendar. Errors during startup get logged into that file so if there's something going wrong early on that'll be where WoW records it.

Kseftw saidYes, it deffinatly works. (Forgot to mention it syncronized everytime i logged on)

KINGKDB saidI am downloading the update, however I have a question, it is asking if I want to merge and replace my old GroupCalender files with the current one (update)seeming as they both have the same name. What should I do?

Mundocani saidThe safest thing is to simply delete the old GroupCalendar folder from your Addons folder and then copy the new one -- that'll avoid the dialogs.
Otherwise, you want to answer yes to all merge folder dialogs and you want to answer replace to any copy file dialogs.
